building a Promising Future
the b.u.i.ld. program
Building Understanding to Innovate, Learn and Drive new mobility solutions
(BUILD) Program seeks to address these pain points by providing access to connected, automated, electric vehicles and infrastructure with dedicated space for hands-on learning for workforce development, education, entrepreneurship, and research.
BUILD UNDERSTANDING
Build a fleet of CAV assets overlaid with an educational curriculum
INNOVATE
Loan assets as platform for education, research and student entrepreneurial pursuits.
LEARN
Use assets for hands on training across the learning continuum
DRIVE
Leverage ACM smart mobility test center for testing and validation
The initial blueprint for the program came out of a study “Understanding the Middle Skill Workforce in the Connected and Automated Vehicle Sector” by The University of Michigan Economic Growth Institute commissioned by the American Center for Mobility with funding provided by Ralph Wilson Jr. Foundation.
A Middle-Skill Jobs is a job that require more skills and experience than a high school education provides, but less than a four-year degree. Often these jobs require an associate’s degree, vocational certificates previous work experience and on-the-job training, or some college experience.
The BUILD program will focus initially on programs that help to close the middle skills gap for connected and automated vehicles.
